It is the sort of detail that only matters if you already live here. And it is a useful place to start, because the question locals have actually been asking each other since December is a smaller, more practical version of the same thing: now that the Ritz-Carlton is back open, has anything really changed about where you eat on a Tuesday night?
The honest answer is more interesting than a simple yes.
Seven Months With No Resort Kitchen
The Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne closed in May 2025 for a renovation that ran to roughly $100 million, its first comprehensive overhaul since the property opened in 2001. Round it out with El Chiringuito's Spanish paellas and the Peruvian-Japanese menu at LIMA Estilo Nikkei, and you have essentially the same list that was doing the work in December 2025, before the resort's chandeliers were even back on.
Why Thursdays Come With a Deal
That short, fixed roster is also the reason a promotion like Taste of Key Biscayne exists at all. Islander News runs it as a rotating Thursday discount across the same handful of village restaurants, and as recently as August 13 the paper was still steering readers toward that week's participating spot for a lower-priced meal and drinks. A neighborhood with dozens of restaurants competing for the same table doesn't need a coordinated weekly incentive to keep people eating locally. An island with a short list that residents already know by name does. The program is less a marketing gimmick than a structural response to scarcity: when the whole island effectively shares ten tables, the businesses that hold those tables have an incentive to keep locals rotating among themselves instead of driving across the causeway for variety.
